XISCO MUÑOZ, SD HUESCA NEW MANAGER

The Majorcan joins the club with immediate effect, after his last experience in Premier League Watford FC

Francisco Javier Muñoz Llompart, 'Xisco' Muñoz (Manacor, 1980), is the new manager of Sociedad Deportiva Huesca. The club and the Majorcan have agreed a contract until the end of LaLiga SmartBank season. He will take up work with immediate effect, together with his coaching staff, composed by his assistant manager Antonio Calle, his fitness coach Julián Jiménez and his analyst Miguel Ángel Muñoz.

Xisco has devoted his whole life to football. As a footballer, he played almost 200 matches in Primera División for teams like Real Betis, Valencia CF – where he won the Liga and UEFA Cup double – or Levante UD, among others. As a coach, he even led Premier League Watford FC until some weeks ago. His experience in coaching started in 2016, after he called time in Nàstic de Tarragona, where he joined Vicente Moreno’s coaching staff. His fist role as a main coach was in Dinamo Tblisi, a team he had known as a player and as an assistant manager. In 2019 he won the local league with the Georgian side together with Félix Vicente. In 2020 he did it on his own.

His sustained success on the pitch earned him to sign for Watford, where he arrived in December in the middle of a poor run. In 26 games he changed the Hornets’ dynamic in the English second tier playing a huge role as the club secured automatic promotion to the Premier League. He also broke a record, by becoming the manager with the most victories in the Championship, with almost a 70% win rate.

His footballing philosophy – high-pressure, brave and dominant football – seeks ball possession. He will develop it from now on for Sociedad Deportiva Huesca.

Welcome, Xisco!
