TOP ACCURACY VICTORY AGAINST GIRONA FC

Seoane’s brace in the closing stages provides Huesca with the three points while Marc Mateu had scored the opener in an even game in Montilivi (1-3)

Sociedad Deportiva Huesca earned three vital points for our place in LaLiga SmartBank by means of a top accuracy win in Montilivi over Girona FC, netting our two clearest chances of this even game in matchday 10 of the Spanish competition. This victory allows us to elevate our place to the top spots in the table thanks to three goals: the opener from Mateu at the beginning of the second 45 and two of them by Seoane in the closing minutes – the first one six minutes from the end and the final one in the dying stages. SD Huesca are growing in our away fixtures, after two victories and a draw in the last three meetings far from El Alcoraz. Now it is time to take the three points home against Malaga next Tuesday.

The encounter began exciting and open, Girona threatening Andrés Fernández’s goal. The hosts had the clearest chances, but Huesca enjoyed some good moves. Buffarini shot from the edge of the area in the 12th but the ball only found the side netting. Just before the half-hour mark, Arnau netted a header but it was correctly ruled offside. An outstretched Andrés Fernández got a touch to the ball after Arnau’s one more shot, saving the 1-0 minutes later. Before the half time Bustos was rightly ruled offside following another home goal.

The start of the second half brought good news: Escriche was assisted from the wing before turning around and crossing for Marc Mateu, coming from the second line. The latter touched it with the outside of his left foot past Juan Carlos’s right post. As good as it gets… It was time then to prevent Girona from dominating proceedings while searching for the equaliser, and the Azulgrana defence were trying not to open up and remain solid. In the 61st Andrés Fernández pulled off a quite remarkable reflex save after Nahuel tried to finish past him. Seeking to win the match by controlling the game, Ambriz made Mosquera and Nwakali come in, replacing Pitta and Mikel Rico. In the 70th, after a rival’s side cross and a header assistance, it was finally Pablo Moreno who headed inside the box for the equaliser. After the heavy blow, Andrés still had to tip the ball behind for a corner twice following a couple of heart-in-mouth moments – Saiz’s shot on target and Stuani’s dangerous strike. Ambriz tried to make his side react from the bench by means of Gaich and Ratiu, who substituted Escriche and Joaquín. The Romanian was key to the winning goal in the 84th, providing an inch-perfect cross for Seoane, who netted the 1-2 in the most crucial moment of the clash. Gaich went close to the third goal – which would have secured a valuable three points. However, it was finally Seoane who, following a long touch, faced Juan Carlos and scored the final 1-3, a winner to seal the victory and delight the Azulgranas.
