Before leaving for Tenerife, SD Huesca had promised to fight until the end and to dig deep for the club. The Azulgranas earned a valuable point at Heliodoro Rodríguez López, if we consider more the form of the rival than what it means in the table for us in what was a very even match (0-0).

An ambitious Tenerife side in the top-two race awaited the Oscenses. The islanders wanted to rise up the league table to automatic promotion places, and they entered the pitch very determined, testing the visitors’ defence from the opening stages. Andrés, however, wasn’t called into action, and it was enough for him to deal well with the set-pieces. As the minutes went by, Xisco’s men woke up, and just after the half-hour mark Timor was close to turn Soriano in when the ball bounced. Escriche could have scored the opener some minutes later, following a cross from Andrei, but was unable to connect a header. Although Huesca finished the first 45 playing in Tenerife’s half, the sides went back to their dressing rooms goalless.

The second half saw the hosts enjoy the better of the opening exchanges, with a direct free-kick by Elady, who was denied only by an outstretched Andrés. Having been forced into a half-time substitution, Xisco had already introduced Pulido. The defender had replaced Insua, who could not continue because he felt dizzy in the first 45.

Tenerife stepped on the gas then and the local supporters got behind the team as well. Andrés had to pull off a majestic save after a corner taken to the far post. Xisco brought on Joaquín and Gaich for Gerard Valentín and Escriche. They didn’t find that spark to score the opener, but they did manage to keep calm against a rival who urgently needed to relight their fire in order to secure the three points. At this point, spaces were allowed by both sides to the rival, and Huesca drove the ball more through the midfield when Mikel Rico came on. No team succeeded in that scenario and unfortunately Joaquín was forced to leave the pitch in the latter stages due to some issues with his foot after a strong challenge.
