SD Huesca suffer a painful defeat at Ipurua

SD Huesca go back home empty-handed from Eibar, following a controversial penalty after a rebound that helped the hosts come back two minutes from time

All or nothing. That's what best sums up the last minutes for Huesca at Ipurua. Controversially, Eibar levelled two minutes from time when a cross smashed against Rubén Pulido’s arm, after having touched his leg. Referee pointed to the spot in a debatable penalty decision. Until then, Ziganda’s men had controlled the game. However, they sank in the stoppage time, when the hosts came back with an own goal. A really painful result and ending for the cold evening in Eibar.

Stoichkov registered the hosts’ first effort, but the striker snatched at his shot sending the ball wide. From then on, it was SD Huesca who gained yards on Eibar. The first one fell for Soko following a corner taken by Marc Mateu. After another corner, it was Puli who headed straight into the arms of Luca Zidane. Nevertheless, SD Huesca finally managed to finish off. This time, an exquisite flick from Soko put Escriche in space for him to find the back of the net. This opened a whole new scene at Ipurua, with the Oscenses willing to defend the score no matter how.

After the interval, Soko was forced off as he was having problems, and Gerard Valentín replaced him. Cuco Ziganda brought on Kevin Carlos, Kento Hashimoto and Joaquín. After 70 minutes, it was the Altoaragoneses’ time to show their best form in defence at Ipurua. Ten frantic minutes would start then, as the referee pointed to the spot in a highly contested penalty decision when a cross smashed against Rubén Pulido’s arm, after having touched his leg. Corpas made no mistake to convert in the 88th this controversial resolution.

It was a punch in the stomach for Cuco’s side, who saw an elusive one-goal lead vanish in the time that remained, as the hosts came from behind when Vadillo took a corner that the unfortunate Rubén Pulido turned into his own net as he attempted to block the dangerous cross into the six-yard area. All the efforts made by the Altoaragoneses were reduced to nothing, while the captain tried to have one last chance to avoid a harsh and unfair 2-1 stalemate.
