SD HUESCA SHARE THE SPOILS IN A HIGH-ENERGY ENCOUNTER VS ZARAGOZA

The Azulgranas pick up one point in La Romareda (0-0) following a high-energy encounter with a number of chances. SD Huesca smashed a shot onto the keeper’s post and the rival missed a penalty

SD Huesca earned a much-deserved point away in the Aragon derby VS Real Zaragoza, following an even match where the Oscenses had very good chances and the rival had, among others, an injury-time missed penalty by Álvaro (0-0). By means of Joaquín, SD Huesca also smashed a shot onto Cristian Álvarez’s post in the first half. It was an emotional and open game, a great football party for Aragon. The contested point pushes us to face the upcoming fixtures, after the encounter in matchday 9 of LaLiga SmartBank.

The match was all about intensity, since both teams went all in from the very first minute. Zaragoza, spurred by their supporters, who filled La Romareda, attacked in the first minutes and had some dangerous chances, but Huesca would answer soon, feeling the presence of their fans in the stands too. Joaquín Muñoz in the 10th managed an individual play in the box, saved by Cristian Álvarez’s legs. After Zaragoza pressed their claims again, the Oscenses, brave and shameless, responded: It was a corner kick from the right side taken by Marc Mateu, who tried to swerve it and score an Olympico goal. After the minutes went by, Nacho Ambriz’s side enjoyed a greater number of chances and clearer ones. After 30 minutes, it was Joaquín who smashed a shot into the crossbar, after his strike ricocheted towards goal off Chavarría. It was probably the best chance in the first period.

Andrés Fernández produced a couple of saves following Álvaro and Eguaras shots at the beginning of the second half, since Real Zaragoza were threatening. Salvador went on the pitch replacing Seoane. In the 51st, the referee turned down SD Huesca appeals for handball and then VAR endorsed the official’s decision. Huesca kept on attacking. Mikel Rico finalised a great counter-attack led by Escriche and continued by Joaquín in the 60th. Álvaro fought back soon by shooting into Andrés’s right post, the most dangerous action of the local side so far. Ambriz moved the bench and Ferreiro entered the field substituting Joaquín to give more energy to the side. A stunning combination in the midfield among Ferreiro, Escriche and Pulido, who ran at Zaragoza, was about to end up with a goal by our captain, full of heart. SD Huesca approached several times, by means of an active Marc Mateu from the left side, crossing across the box. The corners he took were all very dangerous. The Azulgranas had not suffered any rival attacks for some minutes, until a badly-timed penalty was given against, following a foul from Florian to Álvaro on the box line. It was first whistled outside and then the VAR intervened to correct it. Álvaro took it himself in the 84th, but his shot was repelled by the post. Both teams sought the victory in the last minutes yet neither of them found it. The clash honoured football in Aragon.
