SD Huesca are held to a goalless draw at El Alcoraz

The Azulgranas extend our unbeaten home record this season to a morale-boosting 8-match undefeated run, but ground out a 0-0 draw against a Sporting de Gijón outfit

The Oscenses had to settle for a point but were unable to break down the opposition at El Alcoraz. The 0-0 stalemate gives one point to Ziganda’s side, who dominated proceedings during most stages of the game, but never got the reward.

There was no evidence in the early stages that the encounter would come to an end goalless, as SD Huesca upped their attacking game since the beginning. It was first Juan Carlos, who powered a shot from the edge of the area, and then Soko, with a run into the box followed by a low cross-cum-shot. However, the most threatening of these saw Kento hit the bar after a corner taken by Marc Mateu. The Japanese didn’t find a reward after a brilliant performance. Abelardo’s men entered the Azulgranas’ area then and even tested Andrés after 30 minutes, but the hosts reacted by playing in the opposition’s half.

After the break, the Altoaragoneses hit again. This time, it was by means of Cristian Salvador, but his shot is deflected for a right-sided corner. Meanwhile, the visitors tried to threaten Andrés on the counter-attack, and SD Huesca put the least frequent version of ourselves out, by executing inch-perfect passes to create danger. Ziganda brought on Joaquín Muñoz and Dani Escriche for Kevin Carlos and Soko, but it was again Cristian Salvador who fired a shot. Gerard Valentín y Carrillo, fit again after injury, entered the pitch as well, with 10 minutes remaining. However, they were unable to unlock Sporting’s defence, so the game came to an end the same way it had started.
