After the Cup break, the Azulgranas travel to the Canary Islands to take on CD Tenerife in LaLiga SmartBank. It’s a “very balanced” side that will force the Oscenses to perform at their highest level in order to get a result. That’s what the boss told us when he addressed questions from the media this Thursday lunchtime, ahead of matchday 16. “The squad are hurt after missing out on the Copa del Rey, but we have to shift gears, as we face a different competition and we’d like to play a good match in Tenerife,” he explained.
About the rival, he expressed: “They’ve kept the manager from last year and most of the players, and their idea is clear. They’ve conceded more goals than last season, but they’re good in defence and I believe that they play even better than in the last campaign. They’ve got versatile players, so we have to be respectful.” And he added: “I see a toughened team in some aspects. In defence, their statistics last year were amazing. This year they’ve got worse, but it’s not a matter of attitude or character.” However, Ziganda will look to play a good game come what may: “We have absolutely no excuse to produce a quality performance. We’ve had time to prepare it and to recover. We are obliged to play a good match and put up a fight in Tenerife.”
During this month before the Christmas break, the boss doesn’t want to set any objectives for the long term: “I don’t think of anything beyond Tenerife, we have to value our situation week by week. Our daily routine is so intense that I don’t even want to think of anything at all after that,” he concluded.
