Cartagonova would award Sociedad Deportiva Huesca with a point in their first visit of 2023. Just like in Ziganda’s men’s first encounter at home this year, they would have to settle for a point. This time the encounter was kept locked at 0-0, in an open clash, especially in the second 45, but in which no team could take advantage of it.
Although Andrés had already been called into action, SD Huesca reacted well. It was first by means of Joaquín, who drove the ball on the counter-attack and won a corner. Once taken, Florian delivered a header that could have put the Azulgranas –set to wear our green third kit this time– ahead only after 2 minutes, but it rolled wide. That was the first chance against a Cartagena side who were more dangerous in the first stages, especially on the right wing. However, the Oscenses defence proved to be solid enough. Shortly before the half-hour mark, a free-kick taken by Juan Carlos ricocheted towards goal off a defender, but an outstretched Escandell got a light touch to the ball. Both sides opened themselves up in the last minutes of the first half, but neither of them was able to do anything not to head into the tunnel at half-time with the score 0-0.
Cartagena stepped on the gas after the break, and even Mikel Rico hit the post with a header after a cross from the left wing, but Ziganda’s defence remained rock solid. The boss brought on Carrillo for Joaquín and just after a cross from Juan Carlos into the Cartagena box saw the ball strike the arm of the defender as he went up for a header and the referee pointed to the spot, but he changed his decision after several minutes. This made Huesca react, and an individual play from Gerard Valentín, who crossed it for Carrillo, was close to put the visitors ahead. Soko and Timor were brought on to replace Gerard Valentín y Kento, as the latter was forced off with injure. The game then boiled over with seven minutes of injury time played, with only the end product absent, so both sides had to settle for a point.
