SD Huesca provides humanitarian assistance to Ukrainian refugees

In cooperation with Vueling and various NGOs, the club charters an aircraft to carry 2,500 kg of basic necessities and to transfer 213 Ukrainian refugees from Poland to Spain

SD Huesca provided humanitarian aid to Ukraine due to the crisis in the country, by chartering an aircraft both for carrying 2,500 kg of basic necessities and for transferring 213 Ukrainian refugees from Warsaw (Poland) to Spain. It took place last Saturday, following an initiative carried out together with the airline Vueling and the NGOs Nadiya, Sepla Ayuda, Tuakogida Foundation and Madrina Foundation. After they arrived in Barcelona, they were fostered by different families and institutions across the country.

Thanks to an agreement reached with Vueling, the club organised the transport of 2,500 kg of medicines, surgery instruments, food, nappies and personal care products donated by Sepla Ayuda. After that, the plane came back to Barcelona-El Prat from Warsaw-Chopin Airport (Saturday, 19:15h GMT+1), and transferred 111 Ukrainian women, 88 children and 14 men, as well as 13 pets. Nadiya, Tuakogida Foundation and Madrina Foundation provided support and assistance when welcoming all the refugees once they were in Spain.

A delegation of SD Huesca travelled to Warsaw to trace each and every step and provide medical assistance to the displaced persons, thanks to Juan Eito, head of the Barbastro Hospital emergency medical service.

This is how the club would like to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people in this conflict and the humanitarian crisis, by complementing some other initiatives already put into operation, such as the collection of material in El Alcoraz by means of Transportes Callizo, or the Azulgrana players wearing the blue-and-yellow colours of the Ukrainian flag before kick-off in every match.
