2023 begins with a draw

SD Huesca ground out a 1-1 draw against a spirited Albacete outfit on Monday in a very open game where Jérémy Blasco scored to bounce back

This 2023 El Alcoraz continues to treat us with points, yet SD Huesca had to settle for a point in the first home game of the year, as Ziganda’s men were held to a draw by a combative Albacete side. The first-half opener for the visitors was cancelled out early in the second half by Jérémy Blasco, which extended our unbeaten home record this season to ten.

Both sides made a strong start to the game, getting warmed up on the cold evening in Huesca and warning that the encounter could not be kept locked at 0-0. Albacete enjoyed up to three chances to take the lead during the first exchanges. SD Huesca stopped them by creating some neat plays in the opposition’s area. After 20 minutes, Kanté registered the hosts’ first effort on target when he powered a shot following Andrei’s lofted through pass, but the keeper easily gathered it. Both teams were piling up the goal attempts in an exciting flurry that did not change the score. Gerard Valentín was the goalscoring threat for the Oscenses, racing clear down the wing to test the Albacete defenders. However, the rival created their own danger too, and Higinio picked up a loose ball after a corner and thumped it into the post to make it 1-0.

The Azulgranas had to row upstream then for the whole second 45, but responded quickly. We scored the early goal we so needed when Jérémy Blasco headed home his first strike in a Huesca shirt, which came after a cross from Joaquín. 47th minute and all square between Huesca and Albacete again. Cuco Ziganda made a triple substitution to face this new old scenario, bringing on Marc Mateu, Kento and Carrillo for Joaquín, Timor and Kanté. Anyway, the visitors pushed on trying to make the most of Huesca’s defensive uncertainty to lay siege on Andrés Fernández’s goal. The latter was the man of the final minutes, as he sprung to his team’s rescue by spectacularly parrying away an Albacete kick, and so the Altoaragoneses secured a point in the first home game of the year.
