SD Huesca comes back from Lugo empty-handed

Despite the initial comeback, two goals in the closing minutes leave the Azulgranas pointless, falling to another defeat in LaLiga SmartBank to CD Lugo (3-2)

SD Huesca left Anxo Carro empty-handed after a crazy game which witnessed the Oscenses stage a stunning comeback, scoring two goals in the space of just four minutes before the half time, and later concede a comeback win in the closing minutes, 83rd to 86th. CD Lugo took advantage of the home support and left the Azulgranas pointless, falling to a third-consecutive defeat in the matchday 5 of LaLiga SmartBank (3-2). It was a day to forget for Nacho Ambriz’s players, already focused on the home game against CF Fuenlabrada next Sunday. Let’s keep fighting!

In the starting XI, Ignasi Miquel made his SD Huesca debut replacing Pulido, suspended for this matchday. Mosquera also played from the beginning, as Ambriz was seeking to find a turning point in Anxo Carro after a couple of bad results. The evening was not so rosy for SD Huesca - the heavy rain on the pitch and the early goal conceded did not help at all. Gerard Valentín opened the scoring for CD Lugo after just five minutes, and Ambriz’s men had to get to work and row upstream. They managed, but it was not easy to escape from the spider web the Galician team had become.

A good strike by Florian Miguel, in combination with Marc Mateu, seemed to spur the Azulgranas, whose goalkeeper, Andrés Fernández, had to do his best still after the goal. Following an effort, Gaich forced a free kick, Ferreiro shot the ball and Barreiro slightly touched it, accidentally scoring on his own net. With 30 minutes on the clock a whole new game had just started and Ambriz’s men had made themselves comfortable on the Galician pitch. Football started to flow and just eight minutes later Escriche managed to pull off a comeback, showing up after the second post after a corner kick shot by Marc Mateu. This let SD Huesca lead the scoring before the half time.

The rival did not seem afraid after SD Huesca’s comeback, and CD Lugo tried to score again, just as they had done in the first half, but the Azulgranas balanced their pressure in order to solve the intensity Lugo was displaying after the half time, seeking for another goal. The Oscenses dodged the storm literally, given the heavy rain, as well as figuratively speaking, due to the chances of the home team against Andrés Fernández’s box, which was threatened once again within 65 minutes. Isidro Pitta made his debut as the main striker of the team. In fact, he could provide an assist to Marc Mateu, but his pass ended in a corner kick. However, the local team never stopped attacking and they were finally successful, by means of Barreiro, catching a ball in the six-yard box. Three minutes later CD Lugo scored again, this time by means of Cuéllar, producing the final comeback.
