SD Huesca appoints José Ángel Ziganda as manager

SD Huesca is delighted to announce the appointment of Ziganda as Manager for the next two seasons. With over 20 years of experience in coaching, he has led CA Osasuna, Xerez, Athletic Club or Real Oviedo

José Ángel Cuco Ziganda (Larrainzar, 1966) is the new SD Huesca manager for the next couple of seasons. With 20 years of experience in coaching, Ziganda will lead the project of the Azulgranas in LaLiga SmartBank from the 2022/2023 season. With almost 140 games as a coach in the Spanish first tier and many more in the second tier, he has proved to be a highly experienced manager.

A successful forward with a long history in Primera División not only in Athletic Club but also in CA Osasuna, where he hung up his boots in 2001, he made his debut as a coach with the first team in 2006/2007. The following year, in 2008, he reached a historic milestone, as his team played the UEFA Cup semi-finals. During his period at El Sadar, the club always stayed in the first tier. After being Xerez’s manager in Primera División, he joined Bilbao Athletic, Athetic Club youth team, in 2011. In six seasons there, Cuco’s side were promoted to Segunda División in 2015. Later, in 2017, he became Athletic Club first team’s coach. After 54 matches in Athletic Club, he signed for Real Oviedo in 2019, where he has been managing the team for the last two and a half seasons. This campaign his men fought for the top-six race until their last game, in order to secure the promotion play-off, yet finally ended seventh.

Ziganda’s sides play very committedly and intensely, with a precise footballing philosophy that adjusts itself to his squad as well as to the rival. He is renowned for his commitment to youth, and will start to prepare the Altoaragoneses for the next campaign right away.
