Goalless start at Ciutat de València

The Azulgranas kicked off LaLiga SmartBank with a draw (0-0) against Levante UD

LaLiga SmartBank’s curtain fell at Ciutat de València, with SD Huesca and Levante UD as the lead characters. It was the first game of the season, between two sides with still much room for improvement. SD Huesca were held to a goalless draw in an almost tropical evening. The Azulgranas – wearing our San Lorenzo away green kit on this occasion – proved to have grasped Cuco Ziganda’s philosophy, though.

During the past few weeks, the manager announced that he would not take into account his players’ age or reputation for his first starting XI. Indeed, two of our Academy-produced players, Hugo Anglada and Pablo Tomeo, made their professional debut this Friday producing an astonishing performance in a first half where Ziganda’s style of play could be soon perceived, with a 4-4-2, having Escriche and Abou Kanté up top.

The Oscenses intensified the pressure in defence, with an unerring Pulido next to the youngster Anglada. In attack, they sought to exploit Escriche’s speed to play the ball in rival field. And it was actually him who enjoyed the clearest chance in the added time, thanks to a header that hit the bar. Before that, a low cross-cum-shot from Soko had gone wide just after half an hour. After that, some minutes later, the captain had a header, but the keeper was vigilant and gathered it.

Substitutions came early in the second 45. Debutants Soko and Kanté were replaced by Juan Carlos and Joaquín. Later, Gerard Valentín stepped in and Kento made his debut. Our keeper Andrés was called into action to turn a drive from Joni Montiel aside for a corner. Huesca tried to make the most of the fresher me. Gerard Valentín found the net, but unfortunately he was offside. We still had time to see one more debut: Euse Monzó came on for Florian Miguel, forced off with injury. However, the Altoaragoneses were unable to change the 0-0, but picked up a point in one of the toughest visits of this competition.
