Cuco Ziganda: “A victory would boost our chances”

“Las Palmas play very well, they put the opposition under pressure, but we have our qualities, too. We travel to the island willing to put in a good performance,” stated the manager

The Azulgranas travel this weekend to Las Palmas to take on one of the most powerful sides of the competition. It won’t be easy, but a victory in the island would be “crazy,” in Ziganda’s words. In this press conference held on Thursday to preview the club’s LaLiga SmartBank match against Las Palmas, he explained: “We face a team that play beautifully, who are very good at frustrating the opposition, who enjoy the highest ball possession and who are extremely confident at the moment. They have a very attractive style in attack and are rock solid in defence. Hence their results – they’re one of the candidates to be promoted at the end of the season.” And he added: “I expect a tough game because they know how to put you under pressure, force your defensive efforts and make the most of their attacking qualities later on when you’re exhausted. However, we have our qualities, too. We were able to beat them here in a very tough encounter, so that’s our intention again.”

Regarding his side’s circumstances, he said: “We need to move on, there are still many games to go. We’re struggling to get results, but we haven’t lost many games. We need to pick up as many points as we can to reach our main goal and we’ll see after that. We have to win our next fixture. And he pursued: “Anything could have happened in our last games, we must prove to be more decisive than the rival, as we did in the first half of the season.”

Finally, he concluded: “A triumph this weekend would boost our chances, not only emotionally but also to bring the run of successive draws to an end. It would be a way to reinforce our work. We’re working really hard, but results aren’t what we expected. A victory would boost our chances.
