Complete ecstasy at El Alcoraz. The highest of highs. In a perfect communion between fans and players, SD Huesca took the lead in the 90th by means of Jaime Seoane against CD Lugo in LaLiga SmartBank matchday 28 (1-0). Having faith until the end, the Oscenses proved on the pitch that they are willing to fight for everything in the competition, making the most of the failure of other opponents which are higher in the table. The final result did justice, as the Azulgranas were better than the rival.
The hosts grew into the game in the first half. Although the visitors threatened Andrés Fernández at the early stages, Huesca got more and more solid as the minutes went by. Escriche with a header, Seoane or Poveda were close to open the scoring. Darío had a great chance, but the defence made it to clear his shot. In the 37th, Seoane received from Escriche and brilliantly backheeled, but the ball went slightly wide. Before the interval, Xisco’s side already made a good impression.
The second 45 at El Alcoraz were dominated by high-paced football from SD Huesca, who produced real clear-cut chances. Seoane and Escriche created the first two good efforts, yet they got their shots repealed by Lugo’s defence. Escriche headed towards goal from the box too, when the game was almost a monologue by SD Huesca. Xisco reverted the formation soon by bringing on Valentín and Ratiu. The boisterous home crowd urged on the team, who did their best in the late minutes. Óscar pulled off a majestic save avoiding the one-nil after a very good chance of Poveda but, as we already know, the Oscenses never give up. Marc Mateu was the set-pieces taker, and Insua was dominant in the air, but was undone by some poor finishing. In the 77th, Escriche saw a shot unbelievably saved by Óscar again. SD Huesca seemed to multiply and kept up the attacking threat. 5 minutes from the end, Campabadal was sent off and CD Lugo were reduced to 10 men. Gaich and Ferreiro stepped in then to try it hard until the final whistle, and Xisco’s men intensified the pressure, as if it wasn’t effervescent enough already, especially after corner kicks and crosses from the wing. And finally, in the 90th came the match-winning goal. Seoane found the net following a corner taken by Marc Mateu. The home crowd were more than excited and pushed the team, who could make it until the 97th, showing that the Azulgranas can reach absolutely anywhere if they work hard and have faith.
