SD Huesca fell short to Girona FC in El Alcoraz in the second round of Copa del Rey (0-1). In the early stages we saw Girona FC pulling all the strings by creating opportunities, but in the second half of the game it became more even. In a foggy clash marked by rotations and the opportunity for those who have played fewer minutes in LaLiga SmartBank so far, SD Huesca were not able to progress to the next round of the Copa del Rey. The Altoaragoneses will now fully focus on AD Alcorcón before the end of 2021.

The Azulgranas were really faced with an uphill task from the beginning despite the first opportunity of the match, which fell to the home team following an individual play managed by Enzo, who passed the ball to Kevin, except the latter was not able to finish. From then on, Girona FC had more and better chances to threaten Miguel San Román's goal seriously. Valery had a goal ruled out for offside in the 19th, but Calavera would find the back of the net only two minutes later. The right-back ran up from the wing, entered the area and shot the ball out of reach of San Román to make it 0-1. Our no.13 reacted well to save another away effort around the half-hour mark, and in the 38th Bustos, from inside the box, unleashed a powerful shot that hit the post. Just before the interval, Escriche exchanged passes with Kevin, who shot on the turn very close to Ortolá’s left post.

Xisco opted for a half-time substitution as the Azulgranas looked to bounce back in the second half. Kevin Carlos was replaced by Manu Rico and the home team played more in rival field. Pitta and Escriche piled up a couple of big chances in the area for the equaliser, which unfortunately resulted in nothing. Even the young Barba fired a rocket from distance but Ortolá pulled off a strong save. It was just before Gaich and Joaquín came on the pitch. The encounter evened out more midway twenty minutes from time. Besides, a penalty was awarded following a foul on Dani Escriche, who decided to take it himself. However, Ortolá denied him from the spot. In the dying stages of the match, Marc Mateu and Seoane came off the bench to find the goal to take the game into extra-time, but it did not come. On the contrary, Girona CF had a good opportunity to made it two, especially after a shot and a header from Suleiman. Joaquín had the equaliser in the last move of the clash, when he managed to strike a sloppy ball in the box, but ultimately the Azulgranas were well beaten.
