Xisco: “We are on the right path, but we need to go a step further”

The SD Huesca boss is hopeful that January will be a “very important” month, starting by Girona’s home game this Sunday

Despite the current circumstances, as COVID-19 outbreak has affected all teams in the competition, the SD Huesca manager remains optimistic towards the match in El Alcoraz against Girona this Sunday: “We can count on the players that are sound now, and we are aware that this is a tough moment, but we’ll play plenty of spirit, since we know that we are privileged,” said Xisco Muñoz in SD Huesca’s pre-match press conference, held in El Alcoraz.

“We have to reinforce what we are doing. We are on the right path, but right now we need to go a step further than in the two previous games to reach a play-off position in the table. It is time to continue improving, working harder and harder,” he pointed out on his thoughts before the first encounter of the year, when he hopes that the team can be more regular in the results at home.

Xisco insisted on the importance of the closest clashes in time. “January will be crucial, as we know some players will remain out due to the virus and we will have to face difficult times. We’ll see then what we are capable of, though.” The following matches are directly linked to the winter transfer window, about which the Majorcan is optimistic. “I think my squad is very valid, but in line with the circumstances, we have to increase the number of players,” he explained.

The first new signing is Lago Junior. This is what Xisco said about him: “It’s a great signing, as he provides us with a profile we were lacking.”

Finally, Xisco also talked about our rival in Sunday’s clash and their qualities, displayed in our recent encounter in Copa del Rey: “We know they have a lot of quality, so we’ll have to be very solid and take the game where we believe we can hurt them, preventing them from feeling strong. We must make them feel uncomfortable.”

“We cannot miss all we have achieved in the last weeks. People are very excited and we need them pushing. We are one, although we know we have to give the fans some more. We know that if we go on the pitch with an attitude, they’ll appreciate that,he ended.
