SD Huesca fall short away against SD Amorebieta

Xisco’s men were unable to react after conceding the goal in the second half and were a man short after Escriche was sent off

Sociedad Deportiva Huesca returned home empty-handed from Amorebieta. Xisco’s side were unable to pick up any points in a game in which both teams struggled to fashion opportunities. The visitors were reduced to ten men after Escriche was sent off some minutes after conceding the goal, making it harder to bounce back. It’s time now to think about our next clash, the last one at El Alcoraz this season, which will take place next Saturday.

It was a warm afternoon in Lezama, where Amorebieta was spurred on, facing the drop from the top flight. Although they tried to control proceedings from the beginning, it wasn’t until the 25th when Sergio Moreno threatened Andrés Fernández. After the much-needed cooling break, Darío Poveda struck for the first time for the Azulgranas – wearing our unusual turquoise away kit on this occasion –, but his shot went wide. The forward and Mikel Rico were the two changes in the starting XI this match. The first half ended as it had started – nil-nil. However, the clearest chance for Huesca would come in the extra time: Seoane made a run into the box and crossed it dangerously for Darío into the six-yard area, but the latter failed to connect. Lezama had risen in anticipation a couple of times before that, firstly following a good counterattack of their team and then after a good finish that ended up in offside.

The second half got off to a similar start to the first one – Amorebieta were trying hard and the Oscenses seemed more inaccurate than usual, but resolute in defence. Nevertheless, they couldn’t prevent Guruzeta from slotting home past Andrés after 56 minutes. A ball crossed by Larra from the right proved to be the perfect assist the hosts needed. Xisco reacted immediately, introducing Gerard Valentín, Joaquín and Escriche. The latter was shown a debatable red card after a challenge on a rival, but SD Huesca was only a post away from equalising seven minutes later: Gaich, who had just entered the pitch, saw his shot strike the post… The Altoaragoneses managed to get it but they just didn’t kick on, as they didn’t find that spark. Irrevocably, 1-0.
