Oviedo’s effectiveness leaves SD Huesca with no points

The locals let in two on-target goals from two of its rival's shots by Borja and Obeng, losing despite Escriche's goal and determination of the locals (1-2)

Sociedad Deportiva Huesca suffered a harsh home defeat, the first of the season at El Alcoraz, by a Real Oviedo that was clinical from its only two shots on goal of the encounter, both converted into goals (1-2). Despite Escriche tying the clash in the second half, a goal by Obeng towards the end left the Azulgranas with no points. It did not help that they fully dominated the match or that they had the best chances on goal.

Huesca sought to control the game from the starting whistle, and it found a tough rival. Very tightly knit in defence and pressing and in search of errors in attack, from the outset Oviedo made the most of any doubt from Huesca when taking the ball out of defence. After Buffarini prevented in extremis a one-on-one by Borja Bastón at the start of the game, the visiting striker’s goal came in the 11th minute. It came after a cross on the right and a shot by the forward at the back stick. Real Oviedo had virtually no chances in the first half, but they were able to be strong and make the most of that advantage. The Oscenses sought a comeback patiently and through good play. Ferreiro had a real chance in the 18th minute, with a shot in the area from a dead ball after Marc Mateu's throw in, but he could not find the net. Both wingers were among the most active of the encounter, with various contributions to the attack and dangerous crosses in search of the new duo comprising Gaich and Escriche. The clearest chance of the first half came the 35th minute: Almost on the line, Femenías miraculously prevented a goal by Escriche, with a right-footed volley in the area. On the cusp of the break, Mateu hit the bar, warning that this Huesca still packed a great deal of fight.

Home dominance continued in the second half, although it kicked off with a goal from Borja Bastón that was disallowed for offside, temporarily silencing El Alcoraz. Rico had the first opportunity after a free kick, with the ball skimming his head and inches from finding the net. The home team finally drew level in the 62nd minute: a perfect cross from Mateu on the left, glancing off Pulido's head to the back post and Escriche, a yard from the line, chested it into the goal. Oviedo shook the clash with a good drive that did was not converted by Obeng. As the minutes passed Huesca were superior, and had more and better chances on goal, such as a shot by Florian Miguel and a good attempt by Seoane. In spite of all this, it was Ziganda's team who again took the lead through Obeng with a little over 10 minutes to go. The home of the Azulgranas clamoured for its team to tie the match. The hosts hounded a wobbly Oviedo in their area, but to no avail. Jorge Pulido’s sending-off in protest was the worst news to finish the tie. The first points elude El Alcoraz; it is now time to concentrate on Lugo.
