Frantic draw at El Alcoraz

A frantic Sunday afternoon at Huesca resulted in a 1-1 draw between SD Huesca and Granada CF in LaLiga SmartBank

El Alcoraz crowd had a great time this weekend during the 97 minutes of the game, but Ziganda’s side had to settle for a point against a top-flight rival in a frantic-paced clash. Those were all the ingredients of a great encounter for SD Huesca to extend our unbeaten away record in LaLiga SmartBank this season.

Cuco Ziganda told us about the potential of the rival ahead of the match, but you couldn’t tell on the pitch of El Alcoraz, during the most intense 45 minutes at home of the Oscenses in league so far. SD Huesca had a clear-cut chance by means of Gerard Valentin, who powered a low cross-cum-shot that went slightly wide. But the visitors reacted immediately after Huesca failed to properly clear a Callejon shot that the linesman disallowed for offside. After that, Sielva shot on target, but it was deflected and the sloppy ball fell to Obeng only for the keeper to pull off a strong save. Then, Raul Fernandez deflected to corner one more rocket from Obeng. And just like that, the most daring version of the Altoaragoneses was rewarded with a goal. A counterattack started by Juan Carlos, who opened down the wing to Gerard Valentin for the latter to cross to Joaquin led to the opener. However, just like the rest of the first half, Neva counterattacked and levelled matters by means of a powerful shot from the edge of the area.

The second 45 started with Granada approaching Andres’s goal, but SD Huesca reacted right after, in a combination between Gerard Valentin and Joaquin, which Obeng was close to connect. After 58 minutes, Arceniano Monescillo pointed to the spot after a foul on Gerard Valentin but after a few nervous moments, he disallowed it. Granada grew into the game and managed to combine and find the net. Again, after a few nervous moments, it was ruled out offside. Right after, Kento finished off slightly close to Raul Fernandez’s goal. Cuco Ziganda brought on Kanté and Marc Mateu ten minutes from time, and Timor and Juanjo Nieto some minutes later. El Alcoraz held their breath during the injury time, after seeing a brilliant shot saved by Andres. This draw can lead to several conclusions, as many as clear-cut chances.
