Every woman’s victory

SD Huesca women win over Zaragoza CFF B (1-0) in front of a sell-out crowd at El Alcoraz, with almost 6,000 fans who experienced a women’s football party

It was a perfect party at El Alcoraz. With the atmosphere of the big days, SD Huesca women sealed the victory in an emotional encounter. The team made history at El Alcoraz, as the fans ended up filling the almost 6,000-seater stadium, creating a fantastic atmosphere. Akane’s first-half goal was the icing on the cake of an event the club has paid special attention to, aware of what this means to grow and grow. This is the first step to turn games like this into something unextraordinary.

The minutes prior to the clash were very emotional as well, as the youth team stepped in the pitch to make tribute to our no.1 member as well as the women’s team captains, who retire at the end of the season. Despite the liveliness, Zaragoza CFF B refused to be a mere spectator of the show in El Alcoraz. However, after the contested balls in the early stages, it was Verónica Rodríguez’s side who imposed themselves on the game and who carved out the better chances. Akane found the net only for the offside flag to go up shortly after following Julia’s cross. Some minutes later, a shot from Sara González was turned aside for a corner by the keeper. Anyway, both of them were able to avenge the missed opportunity after that, when they took part in the build-up of what would be the only goal of the game. Akane slotted in a thumping shot from a cross provided by Sara González. She controlled the ball before drilling a shot past the keeper.

The hosts were still ahead after the interval, when their boss made some substitutions to try and add a few different elements for her side and letting Totti and Rocío leave their stage to a noisy standing ovation at El Alcoraz. The first was then taken off to be replaced by Laura Royo, and the latter, by Laura Salinas. These were their last minutes at home in an SD Huesca shirt. Such changes made the pressure intensify, and the Azulgranas were able to play the last minutes in Zaragoza’s half, while the visitors relied on quick counterattacks. However, none of them succeed and the encounter ended 1-0. After the game, both teams, though, walked around the stadium to thank the fans for their support, proving that this Sunday there was a real winner at El Alcoraz: women’s football.
