Every Azulgrana had wished Santa gave them a victory against an important rival like Cartagena. And it happened painlessly, as the Oscenses produced a brilliant performance in the first half, with three goals in nine minutes to seal the most comfortable victory for Hidalgo's side, keeping it three-nil until the final whistle.
In the first 45 of the encounter, almost all Huesca efforts turned into goal. And what amazing goals we saw. Vilarrasa opened the dreadlock at the half-hour mark, after he crossed a ball taken to the far post. Only three minutes later, our no.20 assisted Hugo Vallejo, who scored a massive goal too, powering a shot from the left edge of the box. After this boost of morale, the same players found a one-two play situation and combined with Kortajarena to make it 3-0 for the Altoaragoneses. Before going to the dressing room, there was time for one more, when Obeng was clever enough to make the most of a mistake of the keeper.
Relieved by the result, Hidalgo's men were more relaxed after the break. The boss made several substitutions, bringing in Enzo Lombardo and Alex Balboa in the first place, and Manu Rico and Bolivar some minutes later. It was Lombardo who enjoyed the most dangerous occasion at the dying stages, in an effort started by Kortajarena and repelled by the defence, whose clearance was taken by the Frenchman. This led to the dream end to 2023.
