Alex Balboa jetted off to the Ivory Coast to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations

The Azulgrana was called up to by his national squad for the upcoming AFCON in the Ivory Coast, with the tournament beginning on Saturday 13 January

Alex Balboa will play for Equatorial Guinea in the Africa Cup of Nations. The midfielder joined his national team-mates last Sunday, so he will be unavailable for the Azulgranas for as long as they remain in the competition.

The first stage, which will be played by all national teams, will finish on 22 January. Following the group-stage draw in August, it was confirmed that Balboa’s Equatorial Guinea would take on Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Guinea-Bissau in Group A. If they qualify, the games for the round of 16 will take place between 27 and 30 January, whereas the quarter-finals will be on 2 and 3 February; the semi-final, the 7; and the final, the 11 February.

Jovanny Bolívar has also been selected for the 2024 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament in Caracas. The forward will travel to join the under-23 team after the encounter in Gijon and will come back to Huesca at the end of the competition, 15 January.
