SD Huesca were alive in Copa del Rey until the 117th minute. The Azulgranas (or greens, on this occasion, in support of the fight against cancer) fought hard relentlessly but were ultimately defeated in the latest minutes of the extra time in what was the last game of the Oscenses in the cup this season, with a good performance of Hidalgo’s side at El Alcoraz.
The difference of categories was not easy to perceive against a Primera-Division Rayo Vallecano, as the encounter saw even statistics, possession and few shots on target. The first 45 was something like that, with little to stand out on any of the two halves.
After some changes in the starting XI, Hidalgo’s side won yards and focused on Cardenas’ goal, but an outstretched Juan prevented the hosts from coming from behind after the most dangerous chance of Rayo. Vallejo could score before the game was sent into extra time, but his shot went wide. During that time, both teams ventured forward to go through the next round in what had become an end-to-end encounter. And in that scenario, Rayo turned out to be the winner when Oscar Valentin headed home to make it 0-1. And although Huesca tried their best to bounce back, the Altoaragoneses were unable to halt the Rayo momentum, as the Madrilenians put the game to bed with a last-gasp goal by means of Isi.
