The clash against Oviedo had been foreseen by SD Huesca as the much-needed turning point in their negative run. However, the plan did not unfold as expected, despite the Azulgranas’ efforts until the end, with numerous chances. Oviedo’s goal early in the second half weighed heavily and they sealed the deal with a second goal in the injury time when SD Huesca threw everything forward. Now, it is time to heal wounds and get up again in this crucial moment for the team.
From the very beginning, the match seemed destined to be decided by the team who capitalised on the opponent’s mistake, as the first half ended goalless. Both teams displayed intensity, with Huesca showing a bit more initiative but failing to make the most of their chances. The Oscenses wanted to open the deadlock but struggled to find the finishing touch in the box. Around the half-hour mark, Obeng made a promising run down the left flank but was unable to find Javi Martinez with his cross. Ten minutes later, Obeng himself received a pass after a fine move by Tresaco but could not get a clear shot on goal. Oviedo did not threaten much, with long-range shots or through balls failing to find their target.
Javi Mier replaced Javi Martinez in the second half, which did not start well for Hidalgo’s men, as Oviedo came out stronger and after five minutes Paulino headed home. SD Huesca tried to respond immediately, with Obeng close to take advantage from a goalkeeper error. Hidalgo then made changes, bringing on Joaquin and Elady for Tresaco and Obeng, respectively, in search of fresh impetus in attack. Oviedo’s defence cleared a double attempt from Ivan Martos on the far post after a good recovery by Elady. The pace of the game picked up as Huesca realised the urgency of getting points. Vilarrasa came on for Ivan Martos with still half an hour left. Huesca started pumping balls into the box, and a clearance struck a defender’s hand, but the referee waved away penalty appeals after consulting VAR. This seemed to spur both the team and the fans into action. Two consecutive corner kicks saw attempts from Vilarrasa and Javi Mier, both coming close to turn into the equaliser. Additionally, a powerful shot from Juanjo Nieto was saved by the goalkeeper, just inches from the post, as seven minutes of added time were displayed. In the dying moments, with Huesca pushing forward desperately, Oviedo displayed maximum efficiency, sealing the match with a goal from Borja Sanchez in injury time.
