SD Huesca are edged in the decider at El Alcoraz

SD Huesca trail (0-1) against Real Sporting Gijon, as the visitors took the lead early in the second half of a game with equal chances for both sides

SD Huesca were alive until the last whistle of a lengthy stoppage time, but this time the ball did not want to find the net. The Azulgranas tried hard to rescue at least a point after Sporting's lead early in the second half. However, there was a lot of heart and a little organisation, and Yañez became his side's hero, leaving Huesca pointless.

The first objective turned out to be crystal clear for Ziganda’s men in the first half: they could not concede. After some minutes of possession for both sides, Sporting seemed to take control of proceedings. The visitors tested Alvaro with dangerous chances, but he repelled all the danger. SD Huesca then won metres through Javi Martinez, approaching Yañez’s goal more and more often. In one of them the ball seemed to hit Roque Mesa's arm, but the referee did not check it on the VAR. Anyway, this spurred the hosts, whose performance was better before the break, as Kante found the net but it was ruled out for offside. Loureiro had won the ball back and combined with the forward with a clever through-line ball from almost the Huesca half.

Sporting went fuelled into the second half and only four minutes later they took the lead through a long range shot that was ricocheted off Oscar Sielva and became venomous for Alvaro. Joaquin and Kento replaced Kante and Mier to try and electrify Huesca attack, but it was the rival who were close to make it double after a counter-attack that went miraculously wide. Huesca tried to make the most of that extra life, and Obeng powered a shot taking advantage of a mistake made by Yañez, but it was cleared by the defence. SD Huesca did not give up, relying on their last victory in the previous game. And Javi Martinez was close to succeed after a stunning individual play from Hugo Vallejo. Oscar Sielva was about to repeat his trademark goal before Ruben Yañez flew to produce a brilliant save before the six minutes of extra time. These began with a flurry of yellow cards after Diego Aznar fell inside the box. With more interruptions than football, the game was finally over and let the Oscenses thinking of their next clash against Oviedo this Wednesday.
